N.O.R.E. Sued Over Alleged 1999 Manhattan Nightclub Assault

Carmen Bryan filed a civil lawsuit against rapper and Drink Champs host N.O.R.E., whose legal name is Victor James Santiago Jr., alleging that he sexually assaulted her at a Manhattan nightclub in 1999. The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on September 9, 2026, according to the federal docket. The allegations have not been proven in court.

Bryan, a former finance executive at Def Jam affiliate Rush Management, alleges that Santiago approached her during an event connected to his second album, Melvin Flynt – Da Hustler. She claims he forcibly engaged in sexual contact without her consent and continued after she objected, stopping only after other people intervened, according to the complaint reviewed by Pitchfork and Complex.

The lawsuit further alleges that Santiago followed Bryan outside the club, made sexually explicit remarks and later recognized her as Nas’s partner. Bryan says he apologized at the scene and again weeks later at a private family gathering. Those accounts are allegations contained in the complaint, not findings by a judge or jury.

Bryan is seeking a jury trial and unspecified compensatory, emotional-distress and punitive damages. Her case invokes New York City’s gender-motivated-violence law, which was amended by Local Law 50 of 2026. The law created a civil cause of action for qualifying gender-motivated violence occurring before January 9, 2022, with claims required to be filed within 18 months of the law’s effective date.

Santiago’s attorney has denied the allegations. In a statement posted to Santiago’s Instagram account and reported by Pitchfork, the lawyer described the claims as “entirely false” and said the defense would challenge what it called a legally groundless lawsuit. The case is pending, and no criminal charge related to Bryan’s allegations has been identified in the sources reviewed.
